Although he may have been overshadowed by his better-known brother Renau, Juanino Renau Berenguer was an accomplished artist in his own right. Like his brother, he left his native Spain and came to Mexico during the period of the Spanish civil war. And he also followed his brother into the Mexican film business, designing poster art for several studios during the 1940s and 1950s. While he wasn't quite as prolific as his brother, Juanino was very sucessful in his new trade, creating well over 100 posters. Among his favorite subjects was cinematic icon, Pedro Infante. Juanino generated some of the stars most beautiful posters, including; Los Tres Garcia, La Oveja Negra and Los Tres Huastecos. In addition to being an artist, Juanino was also a lawyer and author -- and even authored a book on the technical aspects of poster art. Juanino's creations may not be quite as distinctive as Renau's, but they sometimes shared a similar montage style. Unlike many of the Mexican poster artists, Juanino felt that poster creation was a legitimate art form, so most of his posters are signed. |

Please Note: Mexican onesheet movie posters are usually printed on cheap, fragile paper, which has tended to become brittle with age. Because of this, even posters which have never been used, often have small nicks and tears around the borders and some splitting / separation at the fold lines. In order to protect the posters from additional damage (which in extreme cases, can sometimes occur by simply unfolding the poster), we sometimes use acid-free, archival tape on the back of the posters (usually on the fold lines) to reinforce them. This thin tissue-based tape is especially made for this purpose -- and it will not yellow, dry out, or harm the paper. The tape is invisible on the front. Outstanding movie poster from the classic era of Mexican cinema. The graphics are stunning, showing the two stars, with a surreal background which is almost Salvadore Dali like in design. There has been some repair/restoration on this onesheet. The fold lines have been reinforced on the back with acid-free, archival tape. There are also a few repaired splits / cuts within the image area -- around the embracing actors. However, there was no paper loss with these flaws so they are not very distracting. With linen-backing / restoration, the poster could be made to look almost like new. Even as is, the onesheet will display beautifully. The colors are bright and the flaws are not very noticeable, unless you are inspecting it up close. Super piece!...
