Ernesto Garcia Cabral was a renowned caricaturist / political cartoonist, who turned his attention to designing movie posters during the late 1940s. The earliest examples of Cabral's poster work were attractive, but they lacked a consistent style. However, in the early 1950s (beginning with his design for 'El Rey de Mexico'), the classic Cabral style was born. During the 1950s, Cabral created a series of some of the most beautiful and whimsical posters ever displayed in front of a Mexican movie theater. Posters for comedy films were his specialty. And while he worked for several different movie studios, his most frequent assignments were on films produced by Mier y Brooks -- often starring popular comedian, German Valdes 'Tin Tan.' Today, Cabral's movie posters are among the most sought after by collectors. As the artist felt that his work for the studios was simply a paid job, rather than an artistic creation, almost all Cabral posters are unsigned.

Please Note: Mexican onesheet movie posters are usually printed on cheap, fragile paper, which has tended to become brittle with age. Because of this, even posters which have never been used, often have small nicks and tears around the borders and some splitting / separation at the fold lines. In order to protect the posters from additional damage (which in extreme cases, can sometimes occur by simply unfolding the poster), we sometimes use acid-free, archival tape on the back of the posters (usually on the fold lines) to reinforce them. This thin tissue-based tape is especially made for this purpose -- and it will not yellow, dry out, or harm the paper. The tape is invisible on the front. Superb comic artwork featuring wonderful caricatures of two men and two women -- in the classic Ernesto Garcia Cabral style. There is some heavy wear and damage along the right side border. Stunning Mexican comedy movie poster by Ernesto Garcia Cabral -- this one is even more vibrantly colored than usual. Cupid prepares to shoot three arrows at three lovely ladies: Aguilar, del Valle and Pinal. Gorgeous graphics -- and they appear on one of the scarcer Cabral onesheets! Wonderful Mexican comedy movie poster shows three young adults, who are at the mercy of their tyrannical infant. During an interview, Ernesto Garcia Cabral Jr. stated that his father contributed to the art work on this poster, and he remembered watching his father at work on it. The three portraits along the bottom certainly have his father's style and it is known that Cabral did collaborate with other artists on other posters. The onesheet is signed by Vargas, but we believe it is likely that Cabral did collaborate in creating this classic poster... The film starred Gloria Marin, Abel Salazar, Victor Junco, Andres Soler, Pedro Vargas and Pompin Iglesias. $225
